How does Red Light Therapy work?Red light therapy works by using low-level wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and reach deeper tissues. These wavelengths are absorbed by the mitochondria, the energy-producing parts of cells, which enhances cellular energy production. This boost in energy helps cells repair and regenerate more effectively, leading to benefits like improved skin texture, reduced inflammation, accelerated healing, and pain relief. The therapy also stimulates collagen production, improves circulation, and supports the body's natural healing processes, making it a versatile treatment for various conditions.

What happens if I do Red Light Therapy after/before a beauty treatment?Red light therapy can enhance the benefits of beauty treatments: Before: It may help prepare your skin, improving treatment outcomes. After: It can support healing and enhance results by reducing inflammation and promoting repair. If your beauty treatment requires you to avoid heat, we can adjust the settings to use only the red light wavelengths (633 nm and 660 nm) and turn off the near-infrared light (850 nm and 940 nm), which generates more heat. This customisation helps ensure that you still receive all of the skin benefits of red light therapy without interfering with your post-treatment care requirements (infrared is more beneficial for muscle health). If you have specific instructions from your beauty professional, let us know so we can tailor the session to meet your needs.
-
Can I use red light therapy if I have tattoos?Yes, red light therapy is generally safe for tattoos. The light wavelengths used in red light therapy do not contain UV rays and should not affect tattoo ink or cause fading. For new tattoos - Red light wavelengths (633 nm and 660 nm) can even assist in healing new tattoos. However, to avoid potential irritation, we recommend waiting at least 24 hours after getting a new tattoo before starting therapy. If you do have a fresh tattoo we suggest using only the red light wavelengths and turning off the near-infrared light (850 nm and 940 nm), as NIR light generates more heat and penetrates deeper into the skin. We can easily adjust the settings to ensure your session is safe and comfortable. If you have any concerns, feel free to consult your tattoo artist.
-
Are the results of Red Light Therapy permanent? Results can be long-lasting, but ongoing sessions may be needed to sustain benefits, especially for ongoing conditions.

What is the history of red light therapy?A: Red light therapy (RLT), also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), has a fascinating history that dates back to the late 19th century. It all began with Dr. Niels Ryberg Finsen, a Danish physician who developed the first therapeutic light devices and won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1903 for using light to treat skin conditions, such as lupus vulgaris (a form of tuberculosis affecting the skin). The specific use of red light gained traction in the 1960s when NASA explored the potential of red light to stimulate plant growth in space. This research led to the discovery that red and near-infrared light could also promote healing and tissue repair in humans. By the 1990s, red light therapy had expanded into various fields, including dermatology, pain management, and sports medicine, due to its ability to reduce inflammation, enhance collagen production, and speed up recovery times. Originally, red light therapy relied on lasers, which made the equipment expensive and mostly accessible to wealthy individuals or professional athletes. However, the development of LED technology revolutionized the field by making red light therapy more affordable and accessible to the general public. LEDs offer a safe, effective, and cost-efficient way to deliver red light therapy, enabling wider use in both clinical settings and at home. Today, red light therapy is recognized as a safe, non-invasive treatment for a variety of cosmetic and therapeutic applications. There is a wealth of research available online, and many people share their positive experiences with RLT on platforms like YouTube. If you're interested in learning more, these resources provide valuable insights into the potential benefits of red light therapy.
